Totball / Mini squash – introduces youngsters between the ages of 5 and 10 to the game of squash in a FUN filled and safe environment. Age appropriate games are used to develop the fundamental skills related to bat and ball activities. Equipment is adapted to the age of the players (i.e. mini rackets) A positive reward system (certificates, ribbons, medals)encourages the players to progress through the different levels of the programme. The emphasis of the Totball / mini squash programme is to build a love for the game.
Junior coaching – this year round programme emphasises basic squash development. Coaching is aimed at improving the skills level and although fitness and strength and conditioning sessions are held the emphasis is more on dual sided muscular development than actual fitness. Players are introduced to competitive play in a controlled environment.
Junior coaching – this fast track programme builds the bridge between the junior programme and the junior elite programme. Coaching is aimed at honing the basic skills and the application of these skills in competitive play. Although competitive participation is managed and controlled, players are encouraged to participate in the Provincial tournament circuit
Intermediate coaching – the invited players on the Junior Elite Programme have all participated in an Inter Provincial Tournament and regularly compete in tournaments and leagues. They have all committed to squash as a 1st line sport. Sport science testing, skills testing and a periodized approach to training are all introduced at this level.
Players on the Academy programme are at the TuksSport High School or members of the Menlopark Muurbal Akademie. Players who do not attend the above schools enrol for the Satellite programme and are exposed to similar coaching expertise and intensity of sessions.
A minimum requirement for players to be promoted to this programme is participation on a junior National level. Advanced squash skills are introduced and implemented in matches at tournaments and league. Camps (which include educationals)are held throughout the year to consolidate improved skills and tactics. Biokineticists, physiotherapists, and nutritionists play a complementary role at this level and strength and conditioning, fitness and flexibility are areas of increased importance.
Senior provincial and registered UP students follow a year-round integrated periodized programme which includes strength and conditioning , full protocol testing, skills testing and match video analysis.
This full time squash programme is aimed at players wanting to take their game to a senior national or international level. Year - round, high-intensity, specific training occurs with individually tailored programmes that address each athlete’s strengths and weaknesses. All aspects of the programme are supported by the structures and staff of the Tuks High Performance Centre.
